9 - GENERAL STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

In addition to being responsible for meeting the academic and other professional requirements of the program, students are responsible for following established timelines for each semester they are enrolled in the program. Dates by which OUHSC required paperwork is due each semester are listed in the OUHSC Academic Calendar

9.1 - ENROLLMENT

Students in the DSc program are enrolled by the RS Student Program Coordinator prior to every semester. Near the end of each semester, all DSc students will receive an email with the next semester’s course offerings. It is the student’s responsibility to speak with their advisor and determine the courses they should be enrolled in and send the decision back to the RS Student Program Coordinator. Failure to do so may result in enrollment delays. If any additional information is required, the RS Student Program Coordinator will contact students directly.

Additional information regarding enrollment timelines, including up-to-date add/drop dates, can be found in the OUHSC Academic Calendar.

9.2 - WRITING

Written communication is important for all professionals in rehabilitation science.  Written communication is particularly important for students in postprofessional education programs who have or will assume leadership roles in their professions.  Courses may require papers in place of examinations and the students are expected to write a paper of publishable quality before graduation.  See the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences writing guidelines on D2L for basic information about writing.  Students who need more assistance with writing than the guidelines provide should discuss options for obtaining assistance with their advisors.

9.3 - SUBMISSION OF FORMS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Students are responsible for the initiation and completion of forms and other requirements, with consultation of their advisors, and for submission of paperwork within the timelines. Click links below for specific forms. Note timelines and additional information in the table below.

9.4 - COLLEGE OF ALLIED HEALTH STUDENT COMPUTING AND PROCEDURES

The Allied Health Student Handbook defines policies, procedures, and practices regarding computing and computer usage in the College of Allied Health.  By following these directives, each user reduces the likelihood of data or property loss and contributes to a safe and productive computing environment.  Questions regarding these policies and procedures and requests for technical assistance should be directed to the College of Allied Health Information Technology Director.

9.5 - GRADUATION

Students must satisfactorily complete all coursework, pass the qualifying and comprehensive examinations, and complete an acceptable doctoral thesis to graduate from the program. In general, students must complete all requirements for the degree within 6 years of the time of the first enrollment in the program.  A student’s academic advisory committee may grant additional time if necessary and appropriate. In addition, students should refer to the  OUHSC Academic Calendar for important dates, and the OUHSC Graduation Guidelines for information on what is required to graduate.
