Students must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher in all coursework and receive grades of A, B, C, Pass (P), X, or Satisfactory (S). Grades of D, F, Fail (F), and Unsatisfactory (U) are not acceptable and students must repeat any course in which they receive D, F, Fail, or U grades. Any course from another college or university for which a student receives a grade other than A, B, Pass, or Satisfactory cannot be transferred. Transfer credit is considered neutral in computing the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center grade point average for the purpose of determining academic status, probation, and graduation.
Students who do not maintain a GPA of 3.0 or do not make satisfactory progress toward completion of the doctoral thesis will be placed on probation. Students placed on academic probation for a low GPA must achieve at least a 3.0 GPA within the next 9 credit hours or one calendar year after being placed on probation, whichever comes first. Grades of D, F, Fail, or U during the probationary period may be grounds for dismissal. Students who have been on probation and fail to maintain a 3.0 GPA for a second time will be dismissed from the program. Students placed on probation for unsatisfactory progress toward completion of the doctoral thesis will be evaluated at the end of the following semester. Students who do not make satisfactory progress for two semesters will be dismissed from the program.
Grades of Incomplete
Students who receive a grade of I (incomplete) must complete the course within the timelines and requirements specified by the course instructor. The instructor may determine any timeline up to one year. If the course is still incomplete after one year, the I grade becomes permanent on the student’s record.
